Man accused of attempting to rape woman on Driggs Ave. in Williamsburg
Police say they are looking for a man who chased a woman into her Williamsburg apartment and attempted to sexually assault her inside the stairwell.
Police say it happened on Driggs Avenue and South 8th Street on May 3 around 8:30 a.m.
They say the man followed the 37-year-old woman into her apartment building where he came up behind her, pulled her pants and underwear down and attempted to sexually assault her.
The woman fought back, according to police, and she began to scream, which caused the man to run out of the building and down the street.
The man is described as being 22 to 25 years old, 5'7" to 5'8" and 150 to 170 pounds.
He was seen on surveillance video carrying a black umbrella, and was last seen wearing a green-hooded sweater, light-colored pants and black sneakers.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
