Opponents of big-money development projects in the borough asked lawmakers to more closely scrutinize such projects at a town hall meeting in Brooklyn Heights Thursday.
One such controversial project involves the sale of the Brooklyn Heights Library.
The New York Post has claimed that the $52 million plan is a focus of a federal investigation involving campaign contributions to Mayor Bill de Blasio.
Hudson Companies is the developer on the library project.
Brooklyn residents who oppose the project want an investigation to determine whether it is part of a "pay to play" scheme.
The mayor's office maintains it is unaware of the investigation, and says the library contract was awarded through merit.
