City offers $100 million for waterfront park land
Local elected officials and community members are pushing to bring more green space to Williamsburg.
For several years, many have been working to create a large waterfront park in Williamsburg, but there's an 11-acre area that the city has been unable to acquire.
On Thursday, the city offered $100 million to buy the land from a private company called CitiStorage, which owns the property.
The 11-acre plot is a big portion of the nearly 28-acre park promised to Greenpoint and Williamsburg residents as part of a city rezoning plan in 2005.
The property owners have 60 days to accept. If the deal is not accepted in that time frame, elected officials say they'll look to legal action.
