A seven-alarm brush fire in Brooklyn brought traffic to a standstill along the Belt Parkway on Sunday.
Authorities say the fire, which started in the area known as the Gerritsen Inlet and spread, was called in around noon.
The fire spread through a large area of brush on the Plumb Beach shoreline. Bicyclists traveling along the Belt Parkway could see the flames and smoke from miles away.
No individuals were harmed in the fire and officials currently do not know how it started. No evacuations were ordered.
Efforts to contain the fire were hampered by Sunday's strong winds, fire officials say.
The fire had reportedly been controlled by Sunday evening, but firefighters were still working to extinguish the blaze completely.
