Brooklyn DA pairs with church to help families of former inmates
Brooklyn DA Ken Thompson and the First Baptist Church of Crown Heights are partnering to launch a new program to help families with loved ones who are incarcerated or leaving prison.
The church will hold meetings where families can share their experiences and find support. The church will also help connect them with city resources for job training, housing and education.
"People focus on the person in prison, but often they forget that they have left a family behind - young children. So we as a community here in Brooklyn should do more to help families get through these times," says Thompson.
Thompson says he'd like to expand the program to other houses of worship.
