Father demands bus safety improvements
A Brooklyn father demanded safety changes Wednesday, just days after a bus struck his son.
MTA officers say the 21-year-old Elijah Haigler made an illegal right turn on his bicycle just before the accident. Doctors say he will have to undergo rounds of surgery and physical therapy before he can return to work.
Marion Haigler, the victim's father, called for new traffic lights at the scene of the crash at Broadway and Hancock Street, and also more bike lanes.
The MTA says it also has new technology to help curb accidents -- like speakers that alert people when the large vehicles are turning.
