DOT holds public meeting on BQE overhaul
City plans to rehabilitate parts of the BQE could mean major headaches for commuters.
The Department of Transportation held a town hall meeting Wednesday on the plan to fix up the stretch of road between Atlantic Avenue and Sands Street.
DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg says the expressway is in terrible shape, but also a major city thoroughfare, which necessitates the repairs.
Officials say parts of the expressway are crumbling and limited night work currently underway is ineffective.
Construction won't begin until 2020, and the city will hold more public meetings on the plan.
