A former resident of the Marlboro Houses in Brooklyn created a basketball program designed to help NYCHA youth and kids in detention centers make positive life decisions.
Maurice Ballard created the Game of Life program after noticing that many of the kids he was organizing basketball tournaments for were ending up imprisoned.
The program allows the youth to play at juvenile detention centers and prisons as a way of encouraging the teens and inmates to make better choices.
The teens playing in Gravesend Saturday were visited by former Lincoln High School star and 2016 Brooklyn Nets draft pick Isaiah Whitehead.
"I've always got to come back and show love for the little kids trying to follow in my footsteps," said Whitehead.
