Leaders want to make Coney Island boardwalk a city landmark
Some city leaders want to make sure the Coney Island Boardwalk will be around for future generations.
City Council members unanimously adopted a resolution Monday that calls on the Landmark Preservation Commission to make the boardwalk a scenic landmark.
A scenic landmark designation would not only preserve the boardwalk, but it would also allow residents to have a voice in any future changes made to it.
Currently, the city can make changes to the iconic location without approval.
The boardwalk has attracted tourists since its opening in 1923.
The resolution is currently under review by the Landmark Preservation Commission.
