Shore Theater on Surf Avenue sold to developer
The old Shore Theater on Surf Avenue has a long history in Coney Island, but it's the future that one developer is considering.
The vacant building was sold to developer Pye Properties and is being shopped around for new tenants, one broker said.
The theater was built as the Loews Coney Island in 1925 and played vaudeville shows before being turned into a movie house. It became the Shore Theater in the 1960s. The city made it a landmark in 2010.
Community Board 13 said in a statement that they are looking forward to seeing the theater restored and occupied.
