MTA: L train between BK, Manhattan to shut down in 2019
The MTA announced Monday that it will completely shut down L train service between Brooklyn and Manhattan for a year and a half beginning in 2019.
The Canarsie Tunnel, which connects the two boroughs, will be shut down for badly needed repairs to damage caused by Superstorm Sandy.
All service inside of Manhattan will also be shut down.
In Brooklyn, the train will run close to normal between Canarsie and Bedford.
The MTA had also been considering a three-year partial shutdown.
The corporation is considering several transit alternatives, including extra subway service on nearby lines and a new bus and ferry service.
