A Coney Island grandmother is back in her home for the first time since Superstorm Sandy after Habitat For Humanity NYC restored it with help from another group.
Mildred Davis, who is retired, did not have the money to repair her home after Sandy. Resurrection Brooklyn Relief started some of the work, and then Habitat stepped in to finish it in May.
Habitat recently expanded its Sandy repair program to Coney Island after completing 36 homes on Staten Island. Davis' is the first Sandy-related home that Habitat NYC has completed in Coney Island, but the group says it won't be the last.
Davis says she could not be more grateful for all the work that was done, including the installation of wood floors and a new bathroom.
The organization is now working on three other homes in the area.
