Derek Goodings charged in fatal shooting of Michael Sampson before West Indian Day Parade
Police have made an arrest after gunfire erupted just hours before the start of the West Indian Day Parade. 
NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton announced that recent parolee Derek Goodings allegedly opened fire on a crowd at around 3:30 a.m. Monday. It happened on Empire Boulevard in Crown Heights.
Three people were shot, including 55-year-old Michael Sampson, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were rushed to the hospital and are listed in stable condition. 
According to investigators, an officer witnessed the shooting and chased after Goodings. The 26-year-old is charged with second-degree murder, assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
