Sunset Park residents are stepping up efforts to protect their streets from crime and violence.
About 19 members formed the Brooklyn Asian Safety Patrol six months ago. They go out every night, armed with walkie-talkies, uniforms and two NYPD-style patrol cars, searching for suspicious behavior and crime.
Members are trained by the NYPD, but they do not have the authority to stop and detain people. If they see something, they call 911 or the precinct's desk sergeant.
The group says the goal is to stop small crimes in order to prevent more serious ones from happening.
Members say they would like to expand their efforts, and hope more volunteers come forward.
