Police: Woman set aflame inside elevator in Prospect Heights

Police are investigating after they say a woman was set aflame inside an elevator in a Prospect Heights building this afternoon.

Officials say firefighters responded to the building at 203 Underhill Ave. around 5 p.m. this evening and while rescuing an elderly woman, they discovered her body inside an elevator.

Police say they believe the woman was ambushed by a man, doused with an accelerant and set aflame inside the elevator.

Investigators say they have not identified the victim or who may have attacked her.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS
