Williamsburg indie drummer mourned
Friends and family mourned the loss of a Williamsburg drummer Monday after he fell to his death in an elevator shaft.
Police say 34-year-old Gerard Fuchs was trying to jump out of a stalled elevator car inside 338 Berry St. when his clothing got caught and he fell down five stories.
Alex Frankel, Fuchs' friend and roommate, says Fuchs was a talented and passionate musician who played in three Brooklyn indie bands.
"[Fuchs] lived his dream," Frankel says. "He did not like staying still, he was always moving and I believe he was happy."
A lawyer for the Berry Street building says there is an investigation into why the freight elevator, which is normally closed after 6 p.m., was operating at the time of the accident.
