Fuel spill, floating docks plague Brooklyn creek
Residents and fishermen in Gerritesen Beach are concerned about two ecological problems that are plaguing a nearby creek.
Gerritsen Beach Homeowners Association President George Broadhead says a recent fuel spill and floating docks are creating a hazard in the creek. The Coast Guard is investigating the spill, which it says was caused by a boat that sank.
The Department of Environmental Conservation says it is working with the owner of the docks, which became detached, to get the proper permits to clean up the mess. However, the DEC says it has no plans to issue fines.
Residents say they just want the creek cleaned up.
