Cops: Brownsville teen shot, killed
Police say a 17-year-old was fatally shot in front of a Brownsville bus stop Monday afternoon as students left school.
Officers retrieved at least eight shells from the intersection of Hegeman and Rockaway avenues. Witnesses say the teen had been playing basketball at a nearby school, and as he walked to the bus stop, an altercation ensued.
"He came outside trying to go home and some boy was picking on him and he wanted to fight," Byron Sterling, a witness, says. "Instead of fighting, the boy pulled out a gun and shot him."
Teenagers from the nearby school say the victim transferred to the school this year.
