Off-duty cop accused in DWI pedestrian death
An off-duty cop was charged with hitting and killing a pedestrian while driving drunk.
Officer Andrew Kelly, who works at the 68th Precinct in Bay Ridge, has reportedly been suspended without pay by the NYPD.
The 30-year-old off-duty cop was arrested Sunday and charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. Police say he struck a woman crossing the street to hail a cab. Veronica Vallenar, 33, was taken to Kings County Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Kelly was reportedly released on $200,000 bond after the judge took away his license.
There were other passengers in the SUV Kelly was driving, including at least one other off-duty officer. Police say that officer is being questioned.
