Residents: Greenpoint sewers stink

Greenpoint Community Board 1 members say sewers in the area emit a terrible smell, causing some businesses to suffer.

Residents say they have complained for years about the smell and the complaints have been virtually ignored. Six months ago, the Department of Environmental Protection flushed out the sewers and used deodorizers to combat the smell. Community board members say it didn't work.

Community Board 1 member Gerry Esposito says the DEP has only tried temporary fixes for the Graham Avenue sewers. The DEP is planning to re-evaluate the problem.
