Groups: Paterson must intervene in cop's death
Additional community and activist groups joined the mother and relatives of slain Detective Omar Edwards in their call for Gov. David Paterson to appoint a special prosecutor in Edwards' shooting death by another officer.
Members of 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care, The Latinos Officers Association and The Grand Council of Guardians say Paterson should intervene and call for a special investigation. Edwards' mother says she hopes her son's death will not be in vain.
The groups say there is surveillance video from the area of the shooting that should be released. A grand jury voted Thursday not to indict the plainclothes officer who fatally shot Edwards May 28.
