MTA to split B61 bus route to combat crowding
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced Monday that the B61 bus route will be split into two different routes to combat overcrowding on the buses.
Officials say the route from Red Hook to Downtown Brooklyn will remain nearly identical to the existing bus route, but from Downtown Brooklyn to Long Island City, Queens the route will change to the B62. MTA officials say the changes could give riders more space on the crowded buses, while also making the routes more reliable.
The MTA expects to alter the route in January 2010.
