Bodega owner gets 5 years in hammer attack

A Brooklyn deli owner was sentenced to five years behind bars Friday for attacking a teenager with a hammer in 2008.
The victim, 15-year-old Bunkless Bovian, says he nearly died when Salah Ahmed hit him with a hammer. Ahmed's attorneys say their client was merely trying to defend his bodega from what he thought was a robbery when the teen and his friends attacked Ahmed's nephew.
Bovian, however, claims he was trying to break up a fight inside the store when Ahmed attacked him.
Ahmed's defense attorneys say they plan to appeal the ruling.
