New York state welfare benefits to rise

Welfare recipients in Brooklyn are set to receive their first benefits increase in nearly two decades.
The increase is part of Gov. David Paterson's budget. Beginning this month, a family of three will get $30 more in their monthly checks. For a family of four, the increase is $40.
Welfare benefits are also expected to rise incrementally in 2010 and 2011.
