Boy's leg severed in freak van accident

A young boy's leg was severed after a runaway van plowed into him on Stratford Road Wednesday.
Witnesses say the boy had just gotten off the school bus when an out-of-control minivan came roaring down the street. They say the van crashed into a car parked in the street, jumped a curb and smashed into 35-49 Stratford Road. The boy was mowed down in its path.
According to witnesses, the boy's leg was severed after a building door fell on him. He is being treated at Bellevue Hospital.
Police believe the incident was an accident and are likely not charging the driver.
