Fire officials pull man from Gowanus Canal
Brooklyn fire officials say a man is safe and unharmed after driving his car into the Gowanus Canal late Friday night.
Firefighters say they were driving by the canal when they noticed a car submerged and a man waving his hands from the water. Witnesses say the car drove through the guardrail and into the water. The firefighters say they used ropes to tie to one firefighter, who went into the water and pulled the man to safety.
Firefighters thought there may have been children or other passengers in the car, so they searched the water a second time. The driver later told them he was alone.
