Ceiling collapses on 3 workers; no injuries
Three construction workers walked away uninjured after a Greenpoint ceiling collapsed on them while they worked Tuesday.
Police say three families were forced to evacuate the building at 764 Manhattan Ave. Tuesday afternoon after the heavy plaster ceiling in a third-floor apartment came crashing down. Officers say the three workers were renovating the apartment, but managed to be in the precise section of the apartment not affected by the collapse.
According to the fire chief, the collapse was caused by the age of the building. Officers say there were some resulting cracks in the apartment floor after the collapse. Residents will be able to return after a further investigation and removal of the wreckage.
