Police: Officer shot in leg with BB gun
Police say an officer was shot in the leg with a BB gun Monday morning in Coney Island.
According to authorities, the cop was struck in the leg with a BB pellet just after 11 a.m. Police shut down 24th Avenue for most of Monday in order to search for the suspect. Police believe the pellet was fired from the rooftop of a building at the corner of Mermaid and 24th avenues. One neighbor in the area says police officers knocked on doors in apartment buildings to ask residents questions about the incident.
Residents say the area is quite violent, with one man describing the neighborhood as "live" with crime. One neighbor believes young adults are responsible for the majority of violent crimes.
The injured officer is expected to be fine.
