Accused cop killer doesn't testify at trial
Accused cop killer, Lee Woods, decided not to testify at his second murder trial Wednesday.
Woods' attorney, Patrick Michael Megaro, says Woods made his decision to keep the focus off of him and hone in on the district attorney's evidence. Megaro believes there wasn't enough evidence presented to convict Woods.
Woods is the third man accused in the killing of Detective Russel Timoshenko and the attempted killing of Detective Herman Yan during a 2007 traffic stop. Dexter Bostic was found guilty on all charges, including aggravated murder, aggravated attempted murder and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Robert Ellis was acquitted of murder and attempted murder, but found guilty of criminal possession of a weapon.
According to prosecutors, Woods was the driver of the car at the time of the incident. The prosecution claims Woods plotted with Bostic and Ellis to murder Timoshenko and Yan.
Woods' first trial ended in a mistrial after a juror got sick and Woods refused to allow an alternate to take over.
The jury is expected to begin deliberations Thursday.
