More than 3,000 bicyclists hit the streets Sunday for the Fourth Annual Tour de Brooklyn.

Starting in DUMBO, the riders rolled through 18 miles of the borough with their NYPD police escorts.

They made their way along Brooklyn's waterfront, by Atlantic Yards in downtown Brooklyn and along Eastern Parkway. Riders made a brief stop at Maria Hernandez Park before continuing toward Williamsburg and into the Brooklyn Navy Yards. The ride wrapped up around 1 p.m. at Walt Whitman Park.

Another highlight included a children's parade marking the 125th anniversary of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The free bike tour is one of the biggest organized cycling events in New York City. Participants say the experience is one-of-a-kind.

"Besides the great scenery, great people and the workout, it's just a good time," said Derrick Washington, who has participated in three rides.
