Lawmakers stand behind threatened judge

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn (D) and others came together Sunday to stand behind a Brooklyn judge who has been the victim of recent death threats due to her race.
Threats were sent to the office of Judge Diana Johnson Thursday. Johnson, the first black surrogate court judge in the state, says she will not let the threats turn her into a victim.
"We will not accept intimidation," she says.
Quinn says the threats are an example of how serious hate crimes have become in the borough. Lawmakers are pushing for Johnson to receive extra police detail to ensure her safety.
This isn't the first time Johnson has been targeted. In January, racial epithets directed at her were spray painted in a court house elevator.
