Comptroller: Health club anything but healthy

(04/11/08) CANARSIE ? New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson has sounded the alarm on conditions at the Paerdegat Athletic Club in Canarsie.

Thompson says the facility, located at 1500 Paerdegat Ave., is rife with safety hazards, including mold and exposed wiring. According to the comptroller, the problems are especially problematic considering the club houses a day camp and summer camp for kids.

Despite the accusations, patrons say they really haven?t noticed anything wrong with the facility.

Thompson got involved with the situation during an audit when he says he noticed the conditions. He has now urged other city departments to get involved.
