Prosecutors showed autopsy photos of Nixzmary Brown Thursday as the medical examiner took the stand at the Cesar Rodriquez trial.

Rodriquez is on trial for the murder of his 7-year-old stepdaughter.

The medical examiner said Nixzmary?s cause of death was child abuse syndrome. She said the child was malnourished and had a brain injury consistent with child abuse. According to the medical examiner, Nixzmary likely sustained the brain injury two days before her death.

The autopsy photos showed the child had two black eyes. The medical examiner said the injuries were the result of direct punches to the face. She testified Nixzmary was unconscious for hours before her death.
