Dozens of elected officials gathered Friday in support of Brooklyn Surrogate Court Judge Diana Johnson, the recent victim of a bias crime.

Two slurs attacking Johnson were found spray painted in elevators at the Kings County Surrogate Court. Johnson is the state?s first black woman named to the Surrogate Court.

State Sen. Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn) believes the culprit is from the upper echelon of society. Adams says someone that would target Johnson ?is not the average person that?s on the corner trying to snatch a pocketbook.?

Adams also believes the responsible party is well versed in the criminal justice process. ?These are people that understand the inside intricacies of the court system,? says Adams.

The district attorney?s offices is working with police to determine how the courthouse was vandalized. It is not clear whether there is surveillance video of the incident.
