Parents: Mentally ill patients approaching BK kids
Reports of mentally ill patients approaching school children near P.S. 135 have some parents on edge.
Parents say their children's safety is at risk due to the opening of the Mary Brooks Transitional Living Residence at Kingsboro Psychiatric Center, which is located near the school. At least four students have allegedly been approached by residents of the transitional center.
The center was designed to help integrate its mentally ill residents back into society, and patients are allowed to come and go as they please. Parents feel they cannot be assured of their children's safety without knowledge of the patients' records.
Concerned residents are demanding more security to ensure the protection of the borough's youngest citizens.
