Coney Island boardwalk vendors get another go-round

While the future of Coney Island's famed boardwalk remains uncertain, several vendors were given a reprieve Thursday by a developer.
Thor Equities notified several local shop owners that their leases would be extended through next summer. A gift shop owner said the extension does not include a rent increase. She said she has big plans for what could be her last year on the boardwalk.Meanwhile, the fate of the Astroland Amusement Park remains even more uncertain. Thor Equities has been purchasing property in the area as part of a makeover that will include new retail, recreational and housing options.
Many patrons have said while they welcome progress, they would miss Astroland and the unique stores that dot the boardwalk.
Councilman Domenic Recchia says talks are underway to try and keep the amusement park open through the 2008 summer season.
