Brooklyn officials are pushing the federal government for answers as to whether it will help the victims of a tornado that struck the borough weeks ago.

Many residents say they?ve had nothing but problems and delays with the agencies they?ve sought help from. FEMA has toured the areas hit by the tornado, but has not issued a federal disaster area declaration. FEMA will not give Brooklyn aid money without the declaration.

Residents say they would benefit greatly from aid, and want the rebuilding and repair process to continue.

Others have said they?ve had trouble with the Department of Buildings as well.

A FEMA spokesperson says the agency is waiting for President Bush to decide whether the area is a federal disaster zone and that there is no timetable for his answer.
