City Council approves BK rezoning plans
The City Council has approved rezoning plans for several areas of Brooklyn. The plans cover neighborhoods in Clinton Hill, Dyker Heights, Fort Greene and Fort Hamilton. Community boards and local groups pushed for the changes because they were worried that unrestricted development would change the character of the neighborhoods. The rezoning will include incentives to encourage developers to focus on affordable housing. In areas with mostly low-rise buildings, the plans call for new construction to be limited to three to four stories.Mayor Bloomberg praised the decision, saying it helps to keep growth in areas of the borough that are able to handle it.
