Developers hoping to turn a famous Brooklyn sugar factory into housing units unveiled their plans Tuesday morning.

C.P.C. Resources held a news conference in which it unveiled preliminary plans to turn the Domino Sugar refinery into 2,200 housing units, a third of which will be designated for affordable housing. The plans will go before the City Planning Commission at a scoping hearing next week.

Under the plan, C.P.C. said they will preserve the main building to celebrate the factory?s history. The Landmark and Preservation Commission has not voted on the factory?s landmark status, but developers said they will keep the main building as a tribute regardless of the commission?s decision.

The boiler house, the tanks and the conveyor belts will all be leveled for construction if the plan is approved.

C.P.C. said its estimate the groundbreaking will take place in two years.
