Emergency room patients are seeing doctors in record time at Lutheran Medical Center thanks to a $2 million overhaul and new program.

The hospital took almost two years to revamp its operation and create its Quick Care Program. ER patients now see doctors or physicians assistants within 30 minutes. Lutheran officials say the wait time has been cut by 63 percent.

Endless piles of paperwork are also a thing of the past with a new computerized tracking system that allows staff to tend to medical needs more effectively.

The renovation also included expanding the ER space by 60 percent.

Doctors believe the improvements will make major differences in patient care. More than 50,000 patients visit the Lutheran Medical Center Emergency Room annually. The number is expected to jump to more than 60,000 by the end of 2008.
