BK eminent domain protesters descend on City Hall
Brooklyn residents joined more than 100 people on the steps of City Hall Wednesday to protest eminent domain.
The rally marked the two-year anniversary of a Supreme Court decision allowing property to be seized for economic development. Protesters announced the formation of the group New Yorkers Against Eminent Domain Abuse.
Councilwoman Letitia James and Councilman Charles Barron joined the group, saying eminent domain is forcing Brooklyn residents out of their homes.
Rally organizers cited the use of eminent domain to seize property in the Atlantic Yards project. Lawsuits are pending on the issue.
