Supreme court judge rejects plan to shutter city schoolsPosted: Updated:
A state supreme court judge has rejected Mayor Michael Bloomberg's plan to shut down 24 city schools.
The judge agreed with a state arbitrator Tuesday, who ruled last month that the city's effort to fix failing schools by removing many of its teachers was in violation of their contracts.
Many of the so-called turnaround schools are located in The Bronx, including Lehman and Banana Kelly high schools.
The city says it will appeal the ruling, but it's unclear if they would be able to get it overturned in time for the upcoming school year.
