Dozens attend Fresh Direct job fair in BX

Dozens of pre-screened applicants attended a Fresh Direct job fair at the Bronx County Building today. The online grocer is looking to hire about 40 people for its Queens facility, which it plans to move to The Bronx in a few years.Fresh Direct officials say today's job fair was just the beginning of the company's efforts to hire Bronx residents to work as truck drivers, runners and more. They say they plan to add up to 1,000 jobs over the next 10 years, 30 percent of which they say will be guaranteed for Bronx residents. Company officials also say they plan to make their delivery fleet 100 percent green over the next five years. Fresh Direct is slated to open at the Harlem River Yards in the fall of 2014.
