Bx10 bus driver hospitalized after passenger assault

Police say an MTA bus driver is in the hospital tonight after he was attacked by a passenger in The Bronx.

The assault took place on West 231st Street and Broadway just after 12 p.m. on a Bx10 bus. Police say 31-year-old Fernando Lopez walked to the front of the bus and started punching the driver, Jose Rondon, in the face.

Officials say Lopez attacked Rondon for no reason before walking off the bus.

Lopez is charged with second-degree assault and injuring a transit worker.
