Former Bronx state Sen. Pedro Espada Jr. says he's too poor to afford a lawyer.

Espada is facing a second trial on tax evasion charges after already being convicted in May for embezzling nearly $500,000 from his Soundview Health Center.

Espada's public defender told a federal judge this week that his client cannot afford a private attorney. The judge has now ordered the former senator to make a full financial disclosure proving that to be true.
