NYPD: Violent crimes on the rise in The Bronx

Violent crimes are on the rise in The Bronx, according to the latest crime statistics from the NYPD.
According to the data, police have five murders on record in the 49th Precinct this year compared to just one in 2011. Rape and felony assaults are also up from last year within the precinct, which covers Allerton, Morris Park, Van Nest, Eastchester Gardens and Pelham Parkway.
Neighborhoods within the 52nd Precinct, which include Bedford Park, Fordham, Kingsbridge, Norwood and University Heights, may actually be getting safer. Statistics show a drop in murder, rape and felony assault, but many residents say they find it hard to believe.
The NYPD says that despite the rise in violent crimes, murders are down overall in the borough.
