A group of 30 New York City hospitals, including at least three in The Bronx, are taking part in a new Department of Health initiative that will bring healthier food options to patients, staff, and visitors.
As part of the new program, the hospitals will offer healthier food in the cafeteria and vending machines. The senior vice president at St. Barnabas Hospital, Patricia Belair, says the change is important in The Bronx because the borough has a high rate of nutrition-related health problems.
In addition to St. Barnabas, other hospitals in The Bronx implementing the new standards include Jacobi Medical Center and Montefiore.
