Police: Woman abducted, assaulted in Morrisania
The Morrisania community is on high alert after police say a woman was abducted and assaulted over the weekend.
According to investigators, a 41-year-old Hispanic woman was followed out of a deli at East 169th Street and Franklin Avenue after getting a cup of coffee at around 4:45 a.m. Sunday. They say the suspect then flashed a gun, punched her, and slammed her into a wall before forcing her inside a white van.
Authorities say the man drove over two miles to an apartment at 174 Street and West Farms Road. The victim says he pushed her down a flight of stairs and attempted to sexually assault her, but she was able to fight him off and get away.
The woman suffered injuries to her mouth and forehead, and was taken to Jacobi Medical Center.
The suspect is described as Hispanic, between 35 and 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 200 pounds. He was wearing all black and a red baseball cap. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
