Mount Eden residents demand DOT tunnel repairs
Residents in Mount Eden are calling for repairs to a deteriorating tunnel they say disgusts the community. Pedestrians say the overpass near the 174th Street subway station has been crumbling for years, prompting activist Sydney Flores to gather 2,500 signatures in a petition toward the city. He says he started the campaign two years ago and is still waiting for the Department of Transportation (DOT) to make major improvements. DOT crews recently installed metal gratings on spots along the walls, but people say more needs to be done. Jose Rodriguez, of Community Board 4, says his office has been in contact with the DOT. However, he could not say how long it will take for the agency to include major repairs in its budget. News 12 The Bronx reached out to the DOT, but has yet to receive a call back.
