9/11 memorials abound across borough

As the nation prepares to honor the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Bronx residents are taking part in their own ceremonies. Throgs Neck batallion chief Patrick Murphy will observe a moment of silence outside his firehouse on East Tremont Avenue, and will then attend a service later that evening at the community's local memorial. The neighborhood lost 15 victims that day, six of whom were firefighters. Students and faculty at the Bronx High School of Science will read victims' names aloud, an act especially poignant to principal Valerie Reidy, who had just started at the school when the planes struck.
